Clinical Pilates – Group classes

Our Clinical Pilates program is a major part of both our injury rehabilitation and ongoing fitness programs at Central Performance. It is an individualised system of Pilates exercise that is clinically proven and specifically tailored to each client’s needs. We use a combination of specialised Pilates equipment including the reformer, Wunda chair and barrel as well as floor and resistance band exercises to target problem areas.

Many gyms and studios offer Pilates exercise classes – the difference here is the individual tailoring of your program even when participating in group exercise sessions. Having a personalised program rather than simply a generic workout is vital when using Pilates exercise for back and neck pain, posture-related pain and pre-post natal problems. Having access to premium-quality reformer beds and Wunda chairs, as well as many extras and mat stations, allows us to tailor your program exactly to your needs.

Clinical Pilates treats injuries using a direction-specific program that is determined by thorough history taking and physical assessment by a specially trained physiotherapist. It highlights imbalances and left-right asymmetries in your body, and your program is tailored to correct these issues. Pilates equipment such as the reformer bed and Wunda chair are perfect exercise options for correcting these asymmetries and imbalances.

At Central Performance we have small group classes with a maximum of four participants per class. Each person in the group does their own personal program under the close supervision of our physiotherapist instructors. This delivers the ideal balance of personalised attention and feedback while still building a fun, social and supportive feel within the groups. Small group sizes with ongoing coaching also means you build confidence as you master exercise technique in all areas of Pilates including the reformer bed, Wunda chair, barrel and mat.

Clinical Pilates is great for building all-round fitness as well as managing injuries, enhancing postural control and core strength, improving body awareness and increasing flexibility. It is ideal for you if you have:

  • Low back pain
  • Neck or upper back pain
  • Sacroiliac joint (pelvis) pain or dysfunction
  • Poor core stability
  • Pre- or post-natal needs
  • Pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Knee, hip or ankle injuries, especially recurrent problems
