7 Tips For A Healthy And Happy Christmas Season

Welcome to the summer holidays—a time for relaxation and outdoor adventures! While a fun and relaxing time for many, it can also be a difficult time of year to maintain the progress with your health and fitness that you’ve worked so hard to achieve throughout the year. It’s not a time to deprive yourself of a good time – far from it! However with a little thought there are some easy ways to make sure you don’t go backwards. So read on for our 7 top tips on how to maintain your well-being while still having a great time over the Christmas holidays.

6 Health tips for a healthy and happy summer Christmas season

1. Get A Morning Boost

Kickstart your day with energizing morning workouts, taking advantage of the warm weather. By getting moving early in the day, you free yourself up to enjoy the rest of the day with family and friends, while continuing your exercise routine with minimal disruptions.

2. Have Some Outdoor Fun

Embrace outdoor activities like hiking, cycling or paddleboarding to stay active and enjoy nature. Exercising outdoors can also make exercise feel like less of a chore and more enjoyable. Also, by varying the environment you exercise in, you make yourself less likely to feel bored and jaded of your regular exercise regime when returning to it after the holiday season.

3. Use Sun Protection

Having said that, please don’t forget to protect yourself from the sun! Protect yourself from UV rays with sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and shaded areas during the day when the sun is at its strongest. This is particularly important to do when you’re exercising – it’s an extremely warm time of year and overheating during exercises is a serious risk.

4. Keep Well Hydrated

Stay hydrated by carrying a reusable water bottle and infusing it with fresh fruits for flavour – this can make the practice of drinking enough water a little less tedious throughout the day!

5. Smart Snacking

‘Tis the season to be snacking! Choosing healthy options to snack on can be difficult at this time of year given everything that is on offer. Enjoy yourself but try to stay mindful of what you snack on – it can be here were progress is maintained or lost! Opt for nutritious snacks during picnics, choosing fresh fruits, veggies, and lean proteins.

It’s also a time of year where barbecues are in full summer swing – again making it difficult to make smart choices when it comes to maintaining all your hard work throughout the year. Choosing lighter alternatives and practicing mindful eating techniques at these events is a good way to minimise the damage!

6. Prioritise Sleep

Sleep is a crucial part of life, for recovery, physical and mental wellbeing. Now is a great time of year to give yourself a little extra time to catch up on sleep, at either end of the day. Maintain a consistent sleep schedule and create a relaxing bedtime routine for quality rest.

7. Mind – Body Balance

Incorporate mindfulness and meditation to reduce stress and enhance overall well-being. With many of us off work, we can take a little time to focus on ourselves and introduce some introspective practices into our lives. Use this time of year to not only connect with loved ones, but with yourself. Recharge your body and your mind.
