Pilates Physio – Sydney Clinical Pilates

Physio Pilates, sometimes called Clinical Pilates, is an effective exercise method which can be used to help recovery from injury as well as to improve your fitness. There are several things that make physio Pilates at Central Performance different to regular Pilates. Based on feedback from our clients, the top 3 reasons people continue to choose us for their Pilates exercise are;

1. All our instructors are degree-qualified registered physiotherapists with advanced training in clinical Pilates. This combination of physiotherapy plus Pilates training enables them to work more effectively with clients who have recently been injured or had surgery (eg spinal surgery or ACL knee reconstruction). Clients often report that they feel more confident with progressing their exercise knowing that their instructor is experienced and skilled in both physiotherapy as well as Pilates exercise.

2. All clients do their own personalised program at every session, even in group classes. This is possible because our class sizes are strictly limited – maximum 4 clients per class. These small classes, along with experienced instructors, enables close supervision and technique correction in every session. (This is different to most other group (studio) Pilates, where class sizes are larger and therefore every client follows the same generic program).

3. We use a structured, formalised assessment protocol when you begin your Pilates program with us. This ensures that we fully understand your current fitness, any injury history, and your exercise experience (including your Pilates experience: we work with clients who have never done Pilates before, right through to experienced Pilates participants). Most importantly, we also learn about your goals for doing Pilates. This may include;

– injury rehab and recovery

– managing back or neck pain, including after spinal surgery

– increasing flexibility and strength

– keeping active during pregnancy with pregnancy Pilates

– weight loss

– increasing your all-round fitness level

– improving your mental health

What’s The Difference Between Pilates and Clinical Pilates?

Clinical Pilates is instructed by a physio or exercise physiologist with specific training in using Pilates in the rehabilitation of injuries, for example Pilates for back pain and neck pain. Regular Pilates is used more for general fitness and the instructor does not to be a registered physio or exercise physiologist. For more information see our blog post on which goes into more detail on the difference between Pilates and Clinical pilates.

Pilates Programs That Are Flexible And Convenient

We bring you flexible and convenient options for your Pilates program. Your private (one-on-one) sessions can be booked at any time your instructor is available. Our small-group classes are at convenient times to work around your work, family and social commitments. Our timetable changes regularly to meet the needs of our clients – please contact us for details. Learn more about our clinical Pilates sessions and also our Group Clinical Pilates program.

All physio Pilates sessions take place in our dedicated Pilates studio, located within our friendly and professional Central Performance facility in Surry Hills, Sydney. Our dedicated team of physios, Pilates instructors, exercise physiologists & personal trainers work closely together to make sure that each client receives all of the care, attention and guidance they need.

Communication throughout our team is a key part of what we do. If you have initially seen one of our physios to help manage an injury, and you are now ready to progress onto Pilates exercise, you can be confident that your physio will have given your Pilates instructor a full handover. If your availability and your physios availability match up then you can even continue into your Pilates program with your original physio. This smooth transition from physio for injury rehab, through initial Pilates sessions that focus on recovery, and then onto more advanced sessions building strength and all-round fitness, are a key benefit of being a Central Performance client.

Getting to your sessions is easy as there are many public transport options including;

– Train: we are just 3-4 minutes walk from Central Station

– Light Rail: we are only a few minutes walk from either the Surry Hills or Central stations

– Bus: many buses stop nearby on Elizabeth, Crown and Cleveland streets
