Clinical Pilates

Injury Management and Rehab

Our Clinical Pilates program is a major part of our injury rehabilitation & prevention service at Central Performance. It is an individualised system of Pilates exercise that is clinically proven & specifically tailored to each client’s needs. We use a combination of specialised Pilates equipment including the reformer, Wunda chair & barrel as well as floor & resistance band exercises to target problem areas.

Many gyms & studios offer Pilates exercise classes – the difference here is the individual tailoring of your program even when participating in group treatment sessions. Having a personalised program rather than simply a generic workout is vital when using Pilates exercise for back & neck pain, posture-related pain & pre-post natal problems.

Clinical Pilates treats injuries using a direction-specific program that is determined by thorough history taking & physical assessment by a specially trained physiotherapist. It also highlights left-right asymmetries in your body, & your program is tailored to correct these imbalances.

As well as one-on-one private sessions we have small group classes with a maximum of four participants per class. Each person in the group does their own personal program under the close supervision of our physiotherapist instructors. This delivers the ideal balance of personalised attention & feedback while still building a fun, social & supportive feel within the groups.

Clinical Pilates exercise classesClinical Pilates is perfect for managing injuries, enhancing postural control & core strength, improving body awareness & increasing flexibility. It is ideal for you if you have:

  1. Low back pain
  2. Neck or upper back pain
  3. Sacroiliac joint (pelvis) pain or dysfunction
  4. Poor core stability
  5. Pre- or post-natal needs
  6. Pelvic floor dysfunction
  7. Knee, hip or ankle injuries, especially recurrent problems

At Central Performance all Pilates clients begin with our QuickStart Program.

Clinical Pilates reformer equipmentThis includes your initial assessment & then three 1-on-1 sessions where you will become familiar with the equipment, learn the fundamentals of perfect technique & become familiar with your initial program. Some prefer to continue with 1-on-1 sessions while others prefer to move into group-based sessions to continue their program.

At your QuickStart initial assessment your physiotherapist will:

  1. Take a full history of your current problem as well as details of any past injuries
  2. If you have been seeing one of our physiotherapists already your Clinical Pilates physio will have received a comprehensive handover from your treating physio
  3. Establish your goals to ensure we are focusing on your main priorities
  4. Thoroughly assess your movement patterns, balance & core stability
  5. Guide you through your initial program & re-assess your movements at the end of the session to make sure you get the improvements we expect
  6. Fully explain your course of treatment & expected improvements
  7. Provide home exercises whenever appropriate
  8. If you have been seeing one of our physiotherapists your Clinical Pilates physio will discuss the findings of your Pilates assessment with them to ensure consistency
